چکیده

GH-releasing factor (GRF) is the hypothalamic peptide that stimulates both synthesis and secretion of GH. The GRF signal is transduced to somatotroph cells through pituitary GRF receptors and generates episodic bursts of GH secretion into the bloodstream. Secretion of GH is highly sexually dimorphic, particularly in the rat [1]. In female rats, GH surges are of lower amplitude and occur more irregularly and frequently, whereas GH troughs are higher than those in male rats. GRF appears to play a critical role in sexual dimorphism in GH secretion, because pulsatile GH secretion does not occur in the absence of GRF in either male or female rats [2, 3]. We here report the first evidence of marked sexual dimorphoism in pituitary GRF receptor gene expression in the rat. To determine the functional significance of this finding, we also examined how gender difference affects the ability to release GRF, an endogenous ligand for GRF receptors.

Expression of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Receptor Gene in the Ovary of a Prenatally-Androgenized Rat Model of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Following Androgen Exposure in the Prenatal Period

Introduction: Based on available evidence, exposure of the female fetus to androgens during the prenatal period, by affecting the expression of some genes, can cause polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in adulthood. On the other hand, changes in luteinizing hormone (LH) levels and its receptor are associated with the risk of reproductive disorders, including PCOS. The present study aimed to evalua...

The Relationship Between Fibroblastic Growth Factor Receptor-1 (FGFR1) Gene Amplification in Triple Negative Breast Carcinomas and Clinicopathological Prognostic Factors

Background & Objective: In Triple-Negative Breast Cancers (TNBCs), estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and HER2/neu genes are not expressed. Fibroblastic Growth Factor Receptor-1 (FGFR1) gene product is a protein that acts as a receptor of thyrosin kinase. It plays a role in the proliferation, differentiation, and migration of malignant cells. The objective was t...

Leptin alters the response of the growth hormone releasing factor- growth hormone--insulin-like growth factor-I axis to fasting.

Proper nutritional status is critical for maintaining growth and metabolic function, playing an intimate role in neuroendocrine regulation. Leptin, the recently identified product of the obese gene, may very well be an integral signal which regulates neuroendocrine responses in times of food deprivation. The present study examines leptin's ability to regulate hormonal synthesis and secretion wi...

The role of fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) in differentiation of bovine spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs)

The receptors 1 and 2 of fibroblast growth factor (FGFR1 and FGFR2, respectively) have been observed in all types of testicular cells. Culture on extracellular matrix (ECM) has been observed to lead to initiation of differentiation in spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs). The present study was carried out to investigate whether FGFR1 and FGFR2 play a role in SSCs differentiation. Following isolatio...
